The Victorian Training Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the Victorian TAFE and training sector.
The 2022 awards were held at a live gala event on Saturday 10 September, and we were engaged to film and photograph the various finalists in the lead-up to the event.
The brief
This was a large-scale video project, with 15 finalist videos to be filmed and edited ready for the awards night. There were 45 finalists in total, so we needed to include three finalists in each 1.5 to 2-minute video, as well as create 15 winner profile videos post-event.
Each video was comprised of interview and B-roll footage and needed to include an overview voiceover, graphics and captions. We also needed to photograph each finalist and their organisation.
With the 45 finalists spread out across the state and a 3-week window to film in, it was all hands on deck to ensure we covered the filming efficiently, on time and on budget.
Large scope, short timeframe
Our team included two project leads who focused on overseeing the entire project, including coordinating the filming schedule with the finalists and videographers, ensuring everything went smoothly and we could fit each finalist into our 3-week filming window.
We filmed finalists across Victoria
This was certainly made trickier by the distances we needed to cover. Finalists’ locations ranged from metro Melbourne out to Shepparton, Warrnambool and Ballarat – distances that no simple day trip could cover! But thanks to sharp organisation and the efficiency of our videographers, we got the footage and shots we needed so we could move on to the editing in the month prior to the gala event.
The result
Our final edits of the finalists and winners included:
- 15 finalist videos that were premiered at the awards night
- 15 winner profile videos
- Photography of each finalist and their organisation
It was a pleasure to work with the Department of Education on a project of this scale, and we look forward to working on similar projects in the future.
