About BrainSTEM

In 2015, Founder Sid Verma attended the world’s largest pre-college science competition in the US and watched teenagers from all over the world who had been mentored by a scientist, present innovative solutions to real world problems. It was evident that with support and guidance from those already in the discipline, students demonstrated a greater desire and understanding of the “how” and “why”.

Recognising a significant opportunity to inspire and create more diversity in the next generation of STEM leaders in Australia, regardless of their socio-economic status, support networks or geographic accessibility, as well for corporations and institutions requiring critical skills and mindset of future leaders to promote continuous innovation, BrainSTEM was born.

BrainSTEM’s programs provide the change-makers of the next generation an opportunity to obtain real-world experience, cultivate an appetite in the pursuit of innovation, develop meaningful collaborations and provide a space to fail without fear.

The BrainSTEM Innovation Challenge is a 12-week program that engages Year 9 and 10 students and is designed to provide real world participation in STEM innovation and research projects, incorporating mentoring from someone already in the field, and promotes diversity, teamwork, critical thinking, research and soft-skill development on a STEM-based foundation.

Our network of University and research organisation mentors provides students a window to their future STEM pathways and demystifies tertiary education to position STEM as a desirable and accessible post-school opportunity.
